Description
For sale is a commemorative glass etching of the “Jade Canoe” by world wide acclaimed Northwest Coast Haida artist Bill Reid (1920-1998). This glass etching was given to some of the project associates who worked on the Vancouver International Airport “Gateway to the Spectacular” project which obtained the second casting of Bill Reid`s huge sculpture “The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, the Jade Canoe”.
The second casting of the sculpture was completed and unveiled at the UBC Museum of Anthropology in 1994.
Bill Reid donated the sculpture of “The Jade Canoe” to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 1996 for the point to the entrance of the Vancouver International Air Terminal, YVR completed in 1996.
This glass etching is 8” W X 5 ½ H X ¾ D and the hardwood maple base is 10” W X 2” H X 2 ¾” D and in excellent condition.
This glass etching has the image of the Jade Canoe and in the upper left corner has the ‘YVR’ logo and the bottom right ‘Reid `94’. It is my understanding that there were less than 100 of these glass etchings made.
This rare piece would be a great addition to any native art collection.
I have been selling native art on line since 1999 so buy with confidence.
