Description

An Excellent Example of Authentic Quality Canadian First Nations Indigenous Art.

I am pleased to offer for sale a Northwest Coast cedar carved Eye of the Shaman mask.

This unusual Shaman mask has five deeply carved eyes.

The many eyes are the shamans’ way of seeing into the other worlds to help with the healing of his patients.

The form lines surrounding the mask are also very deep cuts.

The Shaman has access to spirits and essences of things both animate and inanimate, and maintains links between the many worlds of the cosmos. The Shaman is also capable of transforming into beings, both natural and supernatural from any of these realms.

This desirable mask is adorned with black horsehair: Hair is a source of power to the shaman & therefore is never cut or combed.

The eyes and nose are pierced (open) and the mask can be displayed nicely on a wall or a shelf.

The pencil inscription reads “Eye of the Shaman Oct 2012 and the artist signature”. The signature is illegible, however, the collector I purchased it from knows the talented artist, Peter Wayne Gong.

This fabulous mask is 10 “H X 5 W X 6” D and in very good condition.

This is unique gallery quality carved and painted mask that would be a great addition to any native art collection.

I have been selling AUTHENTIC Northwest Coast Masks since 1999 on line so buy with confidence.

Thank you for looking and please browse & follow my store as new art is added weekly.
