For sale is a Northwest Coast Salish cedar bark baby basket or cradle.
The cedar bark strands are wrapped around a thin cedar piece of wood. This can be seen under the strands where there is slight material loss.
This baby cradle basket is imbricated with dyed cedar strands in a geometric decoration in the traditional colors of red and black.
The measurements are 24″ L X 10″W X 5 1/2″ H.
This basket cradle could be early to mid 20th century and is in very good condition with the expected wear and tear and minor material loss and some discoloration inside as shown in the photos but overall in incredible condition for its age and use.
There are many examples of these baskets in the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.
This museum quality piece is hard to find and would be a great addition to any native art collection.
I have been selling native art on line since 1999 so buy with confidence.
Thank you for looking and please follow my store as new art is added often.
