Description

For sale is a Northwest Coast native carving of a painted Hummingbird paddle made from yellow cedar.

Historically, paddles were used to propel canoes and to signal other travelers over long distances.  Some were also designed to be used as fighting weapons.

Today, paddles are often decorated with carving and/or painting.  This fine example uses deep cuts and paint to depict a hummingbird.

These tiny, active, well loved birds represent love and beauty.

This paddle was carved by Sam Baker of Squamish Nation.  The Bakers are a prominent family of carvers on the Northwest Coast.

The dimensions are 39 X 4 1/2 inches and is in very good condition.
