Description

This fabulous Salmon Mask is Top Shelf.  Deep cuts and very unique. An Excellent Example of Authentic Quality Canadian First Nations Indigenous Art.

For sale is a Northwest Coast cedar carved and painted double salmon mask.  In NWC culture, salmon is honoured and celebrated by all coastal peoples: the fish serves as a powerful symbol of regeneration, self-sacrifice and perseverance.

This fabulous mask is a good size at 12 1/2″H X 11 W X 4 1/2″ D and in very good condition.

The depth and skill of the cuts is indicative of a very talented carver and I have tried to show this in the pictures. The grain of the cedar brings out and enhances the beauty of the mask. The mask is signed “Aubrey LaFortune salmon mask 96”.  Aubrey is from the Salish tribe in Victoria on Vancouver Island, B.C.

This is a gallery quality carved and painted mask that would be a great addition to any native art collection.
