Description

For sale is a Northwest Coast  Frog Woman mask.
This expertly carved mask is adorned with horse hair and paint.
The frontal frog image is carved and painted on the forehead and the legs are carved and painted on each side: one side with black paint.  The other side of the mask has the frog legs painted in green.
The nostrils are pierced and the carving and texture of the mask is exquisite.
In addition, the chin is highly finished and there are leather straps so the mask could be tied on.
Frogs in northwest coast mythology represent adaptability, knowledge and power to travel worlds and inhibit diverse realms. to the natural & supernatural.  Frogs are primary spirit helper of shamans.  This reverence is due to the fact that frogs can live on land and in water.
On the back is written “Frog Woman `99 March (Talking about Raven) by Wayne Carlick Taku River Tlingit”.
The measurements are 11″H  X 9″ W  X 2 3/4″ D and is in excellent condition for its age.
