Outstanding Example of a Quality Danced Mask

For sale is a Northwest coast carved and painted old man mask.
This mask is carved by Calvin Hunt. Calvin Hunt is Chief Tłasutiwalis, Kwagu’l from Fort Rupert as well as Hereditary Chief Nasnamus, Mowachaht of Friendly Cove. He is a highly respected Northwest Coast Artist, teacher and inductee into the prestigious Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He was also honoured with the BC Creative Achievement Award for Aboriginal Art in 2009. He started to carve when he was 12 years old and is an important member of the internationally renowned Mungo Martin / Hunt Family of Master Carvers.
This mask was used to dance in a potlatch ceremony, hence the articulated mouth, eye openings, and back cloth cover.

The writing inside is as follows: Calvin Hunt Kwakuitl old man alder wood 1979″.
